2 weeks down....13 to go.

Happy Fall everyone! First things first: I survived my first 2 weeks of my 612 Practicum!!! I have never been SO anxious in my entire life for something that should come naturally to me---counseling. Last night was supposed to be my first individual client contact....only my client was a NO SHOW!! I was bummed, relieved, and then angry all at once. I need to log 15 hours of mandated counseling before this semester is over. We have 13 weeks left to gain those hours! Instead, I observed my classmates counsel for the first time (behind a 2-way mirror with microphones, and hidden cameras) Talk about ANXIETY!! So, for the next 13 weeks....my life consists of cutting out from work 5 hours early on Mondays(which also means money LOST), driving over 300 miles to attend a class from 3:00-9:00pm, and getting home around 12am...without eating dinner on most nights. Fun? I think not.
Last night I carpooled with a fellow classmate- we had a good time chatting on the way down (2.5 hrs one way) and felt the need to "make up some time" on the ride home since it was already 9:30. We were going a decent speed limit (mind you it was over 55) and we end up passing a State Policeman-YIKES. He turns around and follows me a mile before flashing those red lights- DANG IT!!! Luckily he was a nice guy and let us go since we "weren't going fast enough to get a ticket". THANK YOU!!! Let's hope that pattern does not continue on Monday nights.
The
housing situation is progressing well! Our mortgage people are going to work for us and filling out paperwork diligently. Justin and I received our appraisal report and we are all clear on that, as well as septic, well, and house inspections. We have already picked out paint colors (and i refuse to go back on them due to my awful indecisiveness). In 25 days we will officially be home owners!!!! A huge step in our lives!
Justin and I have also met with an insurance agency about home insurance, car, and RING insurance (finally!). I will be SO relieved to know this little piece of property on my finger will be safe and sound :) So many new "grown up" things are happening right now it's kind of unbelievable. In a blink of an eye....we are adults. For now...we are enjoying the last few weeks of free room & board.

Wedding Update: I now officially have bridesmaids, and a Matron of Honor!!!! I dragged my feet in the beginning, but really wanted to ask the girls in a special way to be my "maids". I made all of them special photo collages from the years past of our friendships. They were all special in their own ways, and the girls loved them!! Kim, Maria, Kaytlyn, and Lindsey will be beautiful in yellow! Justin....has only asked one friend SO FAR to be his groomsman. We're working on that... Stay tuned! We also have a photographer!!! Priceless Photography will be snapping our photos for 8 long hours on July 31st! We are very excited to get rolling on an Engagement session with her. Our photographer is a church family friend who started her own business in photography- it works out perfectly (since she worked very well with us on the price!) Everything is starting to really come together, and it feels good.

The Year of Everything!

I hereby declare this the year of everything!!!! As I approach my VERY last class of my Masters program, I am feeling a "whooosh" of everything rushing upon me at once. Would you like a run down? Ok

  1. 3 years of grad school coming to a screeching halt in T-minus 7 months and counting.
  2. One pretty big class beginning tomorrow--counseling REAL live people in Grand Rapids, alone, with no classmates to have my back. Getting home at 11:30pm isn't sounding great.
  3. Finding a "bridging experience" to pair with my counseling practicum- which is a required 25 hours during the semester. 10 hours are to be one-on-one counseling. All to be done before December. Try that with working full time during the week.
  4. Finding an internship (at a school, full time, no pay) before December arrives. No more paycheck for Emily for 15 LONG weeks. Oh....unless I get a 2nd job. Hello mortgage payment!
  5. Closing on our VERY FIRST home October 16th!!!!!!!!
  6. Signing all mortgage papers/finding house insurance/completing inspections/signing fat checks within the next month.
  7. October 14-(Our 7 year anniversary!!) Lindsey and Rob move back from London, and back into parents house.
  8. October 17- Take MTTC exam (to be certified to counsel in Michigan) A BIG TEST!!!
  9. Closing on house the DAY BEFORE this huge exam.
  10. Moving into new house/painting/spending a fortune on furnishings/trying to settle in before snow flies.
  11. OH AND continue planning our wedding!!!
Yup, that about sums it up!! Lots to think about. Money to spend (bites nails), and goals to achieve very....SOON.

Side note: For those of you who were not aware-Justin and I put an offer on a house on Lake Leelanau Drive last week and the offer WAS ACCEPTED!! We are very happy to be homeowners in about 30 days! Now starts the signing of papers and checks :) It will be a definite change in our lives, but a good one at that. I don't think we can cram anything more into these next few months.

A Night in Onekama

Labor Day 2009 was spent basking in the continual sunshine we have been given here in Northern Michigan. The evening was spent with family! We took a trip to Onekama, MI to have dinner with The Budreau's and the Teopas'. We ate at this little "hole in the wall" called the Blue Slipper. My cousin Allison (in the denim shirt) is almost 9 mos pregnant and due on Sept. 22!! She was a trooper for participating! Joel (in the white shirt) had just flown in from San Francisco the night before....he looks a little tired, but it was good to see him!
As we left town, there was a "scenic lookout" over the water.....we HAD to stop as the sunset was too good to pass up.

I love sunsets for this reason alone....
Mom and Dad. The night was gorgeous. Summertime is truly my favorite time of year because of all the amazing colors you can see. I only hope to capture such a beautiful sunset on my wedding day :)

Montana State Vs. Michigan State!

Justin and I went down to East Lansing with our friends Chris and Marissa Miliron for the MSU Vs. MSU game in East Lansing September 5th 2009! It was one of the only times Montana State will ever play Michigan State so we HAD to go see my Alma Matter play!! It was a VERY hot day, but beautiful. We left TC around 8am and got down there in time for the first 10 minutes. A small "purse fiasco" held us up for a good 25 minutes before going into the stadium. Marissa and I are stylish (i like to think so at least) and we brought our rather LARGE purses to the game since we had cameras, wallets, and other necessities inside. WELL....a security officer said "no purses larger than this small box I'm holding" WHAT!! This was a total buzz kill for us since we had parked OVER A MILE AWAY!!! Thankfully, Chris being a great guy, offered to RUN back to the car with both purses!!!! I'm sure it looked as if he had stolen them! Nonetheless, we had a great time enjoying the first football game of the season.
Montana State lost 43-3. Ouch. Michigan State needs a good "booster game" every season anyway right?? I was also lucky to get out of the stadium alive considering I was the ONLY person out of around 70,000 fans wearing Montana State pride. Yup I'm proud! Go Cats!
