Our Couples Shower!

For my 2nd shower we decided to do something a little different....so we planned a couples shower! I wanted Justin to be part of the fun and experience the excitement of opening gifts and being the center of attention leading up to our wedding. It was a BLAST! My cousin Allison and her mom (my aunt) threw the shower for us and they did a great job. It was mexican themed...so the beer and food were mexican (our favorite). We had hilarious games and events that only showers could have!

Lindsey prepared the guacamole for the party!

We had little pinatas all over the house for decoration.

This was a great guys vs. girls game. The guys had to identify "feminine items" on a mat and write down their proper name. Among the items, the guys wrote "eyelash former" (eyelash curler) "barett" (hair pin)....the list went on. It was truly entertaining! The guys actually knew most of the names of our "secret things".

The ladies were given "male items" including "golf tees, spark plugs, alan wrenches etc." I did not score well on this game! Kim (one of my bridesmaids) got most of them correct! It was a really fun game nonetheless.

Justin is trying to argue that he named one of our items correctly! Not so fast....

Mom and dad had a good time with the game....my dad scored pretty well. Afterall, he's lived with 3 women for over 20 years! Haha.

John (the best man) brought over his little boy Bryce for the festivities!

For every game someone won, Justin and I got prizes as well---I liked this part! We ended up with several bags of "houseware" items.

The last game we played was quite the spectacle. I was blindfolded and the guys lined up, pulled up a pantleg and I had to feel each guys leg and then guess what leg belonged to Justin! AH!! It was very funny, and actually quite hard to do. Everyone was laughing hysterically and I was desperately trying to find my "chicken legs" :)

Here I am trying to determine if these were Justin's legs. Our friend adam (one of the groomsman) did something very funny to try and throw me off.....let's just say I didn't touch his leg. This was not caught on camera...for good reason! I ended up guessing correctly and WINNING this game!!! I know Justin too well ;)

We opened gifts, which is always fun....but it was more fun having Justin there participating with me. We took turns opening the gifts! Here.....a very different gift of glass rings bound together. We had some fun with it and put them on our fingers!

We got a grill from Justin's parents~ all the way from Idaho!! This was our favorite gift. We have had ALOT of baked chicken over the past 6 months! Time for a real grilled burger :)

I love our facial expressions here. Over the past 50 years, several women's garters have been handed down in our family from bride-to-bride (starting with my grandma). The "something old" part of the saying. I was shocked when I opened them up to find there were THREE old blue garters!! Justin quickly handed them off to me.

We received 2 nice place settings from my parents! None of our plates currently match at home...so when you come over, you're getting something different each time. Now...we can finally begin matching all of our plates!! We're not in college anymore, so it's time to start having nicer things :)

Among the grill, we also received a wood cutting board and a meat tenderizer! I was very excited about this! I love that everyone snapped photos of us opening our gifts. It's so much fun going back and seeing the looks on our faces. Priceless really. The shower was a huge hit, and I highly recommend them to ANYONE getting married! It was great to share those moments with Justin and have him see how much fun they can be. He was a skeptic at first, but he truly enjoyed himself, and being able to share the day with our closest "couple" friends was so wonderful. Here's to the next 50 days flying by......one more shower to go......and a huge party on July 31st :)

Memorial Day Weekend~ welcome back summer!

This weekend was Memorial Day weekend---and the unofficial kick-off of summer in Traverse City. Buzzing with thousands of tourists, it's now summertime. The weekend brings campers, marathon runners of the Bayshore marathon, shoppers, boaters, and beach-goers. We participated in 2 of those past times this weekend :) On Friday night, Justin and I took our little boat out on Lake Leelanau for the very first time! It was a perfect eveningt for a boat ride---I loved it!
The boat launch is 3/4 of a mile from our driveway~ perfect :)

We spent our first summer day at North Bay in Empire~~ one of our very most favorite beaches to go to. With the dunes in the background, Lake Michigan at our toes, and 85 degree weather...it was the most perfect day. We spent it with 2 other couples...lounging in the sand and swimming (in 56 degree water!)

Kelsey, Me, and Kim.

We goofed around a little. It was an absoulutely carefree summer day---and weather like this on May 29th is a RARE thing. We topped off the day with a grilled steak dinner....delicious! Here's to a long and warm summer!! Happy Memorial Day!
